Heart pots, jelly and clockwork Gobbos
Four items matter: heart pots raise your health bar, the Brave Heart Pot achievement asks for every one of them, jelly gives the jelly jump, and a clockwork Gobbo is a one-use helper.
Four pickups, four achievements
Croc 2's item list is short, and every item in it maps to an achievement. Heart pots extend the health bar, jelly changes your jump, a clockwork Gobbo is a one-shot helper, and the gadgets you buy from Swap Meet Pete fill the gaps between them.
| Item | What it does | Achievement | Global rate |
|---|---|---|---|
| Heart pot | Adds a heart to the health bar | The Heart Locker (first one) | 83.6% |
| Heart pot (all) | Every pot in the game | Brave Heart Pot | 17.4% |
| Jelly | Gives Croc the jelly jump | Green Croc Can Jump | 77.1% |
| Clockwork Gobbo | A single-use Gobbo helper | A Clockwork Gobbo | 67.2% |
| Bonus health | Maximum bonus hearts on remastered | Mad Max Hearts | 33.0% |

Heart pots
A heart pot is a permanent upgrade: grab one and the health bar grows by a heart. The first one is nearly free (83.6% of players have it), and the full set is not (17.4%). That gap is the whole story of the item: pots are placed off the main path, usually behind a side route or at the end of a vehicle section, so a straight playthrough finishes the game with a short bar.
If you are struggling with a Guardian, hunt pots before you practise the fight. Two extra hearts change a no-hit attempt from a coin flip into something you can learn. The guardians page lists which fight each pot pays off in.
Jelly and the jelly jump
Jelly is the item that turns a normal jump into a jelly jump, and Green Croc Can Jump (77.1%) fires the first time you use one. The mechanic matters because a jelly jump reaches ledges the triple jump cannot, and several Crystal and Golden Gobbo spots are placed on exactly those ledges.
Two things are worth knowing before you rely on it: the jump has a different arc from the triple jump, so do not try to chain them, and the landing is the part that catches people — you keep momentum, so aim at the middle of a platform rather than its edge.
Clockwork Gobbos
A clockwork Gobbo is a wind-up helper you release once. A Clockwork Gobbo (67.2%) is the achievement for using your first, and the 67.2% rate suggests a third of players never touch one, which is a mistake: they are the answer to several Gobbo rescue rooms where you cannot reach the cage yourself.
Treat them as keys, not combat items. If a room has a cage you cannot open and a clockwork Gobbo sitting nearby, the level is telling you the intended solution.
Gadgets from Swap Meet Pete
Pete's General Store is where crystals turn into convenience. Argonaut's description calls the stock "handy gadgets", and the store also runs the Crystal Ball that teleports Croc between villages, which is the fastest way to backtrack for a missed collectible.
There is a real tension here: buying gadgets drains the same crystal pool that fills the 999 loyalty card. If you want Crystals Are Forever, buy only what a specific rescue needs and leave the rest on the card.
Bonus health and the remastered setting
Mad Max Hearts (33.0%) is the odd one out, because it is not about a pickup: it wants maximum bonus health while playing on remastered difficulty. Bonus hearts come from the same pot economy, so the achievement is really "collect enough pots on the harder setting".
That makes it a mid-game target rather than a completion task. You do not need every pot, just enough to cap the bonus bar — and the collectibles page has the pot totals next to the other counters.
What to pick up first
- Any heart pot you walk past. They never stop mattering.
- Jelly, the first time you see it, so the jump timing is learned in a safe room rather than over a gap.
- Clockwork Gobbos only when a cage is in sight; otherwise they are wasted.
- Gadgets last. Crystals are worth more on the loyalty card than in Pete's till.
