Cars, boats, minecarts, gliders and planes
Five vehicle types are in the game: race cars, speedboats, minecarts, a hang glider and an airplane, plus the boat race that The Boat Book achievement tracks.
Five vehicle families
Argonaut's description names the whole set in one line: race in cars and speedboats, ride minecarts, catch air on a hang glider, and take to the skies in an airplane, across over 40 levels. Each family replaces Croc's platforming controls with a different scheme, and each one has its own failure state.
| Vehicle | Where it appears | Control change | Achievement |
|---|---|---|---|
| Race car | Circuit levels, lava and jungle tracks | Steering and acceleration replace walking | — |
| Speedboat | Sailor Village waterways | Water steering, wakes and ramps | The Boat Book (16.5%) |
| Minecart | Cave and mine sections | Rail-locked, timing jumps only | — |
| Hang glider | Cossack and Caveman vertical sections | Glide, dive and air currents | — |
| Airplane | Open sky sections | Full flight, altitude and turn rate | — |

Race cars
The car levels are the closest the game gets to a kart racer: a fixed circuit, a lap counter and opponents that take the racing line properly. The car's handling is the one thing that carries over from Croc's movement — you still want to jump, and the car can, which is how you clear the gaps that are not ramps.
The mistake most players make is treating the throttle as binary. The tracks are built with corners that need a lift, and the lava circuits punish a full-speed entry every time.
Speedboats
Boats are the Sailor Village vehicle, and the water is the mechanic: wakes push you, ramps launch you, and the boat turns far slower than the car. The one achievement in this family lives here — The Boat Book (16.5%) asks you to win the boat race after being first at the end of the first lap, so a slow start is unrecoverable by design.

Minecarts
Minecarts are on rails, which sounds passive and is not: you control speed and jump timing, and the track throws switches, gaps and low ceilings at you. Because you cannot steer, the only skill is reading the track two seconds ahead.
The carts also appear in levels where you need to bail out mid-ride to grab a crystal or a Golden Gobbo, so learn the jump-off timing rather than riding to the end every time.
Hang gliders
The glider is the closest thing to a flying collectible run: you launch from a high ledge, trade altitude for distance, and the level places crystals along the glide path rather than on the ground. Catch an updraft and you can cross an entire valley; miss one and you land short.

Airplanes
The airplane sections are the game's showpieces: open sky, a plane that banks, and targets or rings that need a proper turn rather than a nudge. Turn rate is the whole skill — the plane turns wide at speed, so you line up early and let the turn finish.
Because these sections are generous with altitude, they are the safest place in the game to practise camera control before a boss.
What the vehicle levels are actually for
Three things, in order: they break up the platforming, they hide collectibles in places Croc cannot walk to, and they gate the last village. If you are sweeping for crystals, the vehicle sections are where a run usually loses its 100-crystal count, because a missed ring or a skipped ramp is not recoverable without restarting the level.
The collectibles page lists the 100-crystal achievement, and the levels overview explains how vehicle stages are distributed across the four villages.
Controls that change per vehicle
Walking: jump, tail spin, triple jump. Car and boat: accelerate, brake, steer, hop. Minecart: speed and jump only. Glider: pitch and turn, no ground movement. Airplane: throttle, pitch and turn. The controls page has the full mapping for keyboard and pad.
